April 2021: COVID-19 Training Update
In accordance with English Athletics guidance, we have training sessions on Tuesday and Thursdays for limited groups. To join in you have to book a place through the Run Together website.
For the latest information please use the club Facebook page and you can share your experiences in the Strava groups.
30th December: COVID-19 Training Update
Having been placed in Tier 4, the club has suspended all training in accordance with English Athletics guidance.
However we encourage all members from the newest to the most experienced to continue their training, (unless advised otherwise by their doctor) and to continue to use the club Facebook and Strava groups to share their running experiences during this unusual period. Those members who do not use Facebook or Strava can keep up to date with what other members of the club via the ‘News’ section of the website, the monthly newsletter, or by contacting one of the committee using the email addresses on the Contacts page.
28th November COVID-19 Training Update
Following the revised England Athletics guidance of November 27th we will be restarting our club training runs from Tuesday December 8th.
As before the most recent lockdown, we need anyone who is coming down to the sessions to book on to them using the RunTogether app/website as we need to know how many people to expect and to be able to confirm who attended.
Once we arrive at Broomfields we will gather in the relevant groups of matched paced and distance, and as before you choose which one. One person from each group will then volunteer / be appointed as Group Leader (if there is no Run Leader in that group), and it will be that person’s responsibility to:
- Follow the Covid-19 Government guidelines within the group.
- Know who is in your group.
- Know the chosen route – not get lost.
- Keep the group together – setting an agreed pace for your group, mustering etc
- Avoid other groups. No photos of 20 people together etc
- Not get the club in the papers / Social media for all the wrong reasons etc.
Once you finish the run, we ask you disperse quickly, to ensure we all stay as safe as possible.
4th November COVID-19 Update
Following guidance from English Athletics all organised club activities have been suspended for at least the next 4 weeks.
Any potential new members who want to try one of our club runs, should contact John our Club secretary at secretary@warringtonroadrunners.co.uk
01/09/2020: Training Update
We are going to start the club runs on Tuesdays and Thursday nights.
Under the current guidelines it is acceptable for people to exercise outside in groups of six or less, and we are planning to operate the run on this basis.
We need anyone who is coming down to the sessions to book on to them using the RunTogether app/website as we need to know how many people to expect and to be able to confirm who attended.
Once you arrive at Broomfields you will gather in a Group of up to 6 runners in a matching paced and distance group, you choose which one. One of you will then volunteer / be appointed as Group Leader, and it will be that person’s responsibility to:
- Follow the Covid-19 Government guidelines within the group.
- Know who is in your group.
- Know the chosen route – not get lost.
- Keep the group together – setting an agreed pace for your group, mustering etc
- Avoid other groups. No photos of 20 people together etc
- Not get the club in the papers / Social media for all the wrong reasons etc.
The route for the next couple of weeks will be a modified version of the Winter route #1. Some small changes while light permits to use some of the wider and quieter paths and roads.
It’s likely that the run will be being finished in the dark so please wear lights and something reflective.
Some of the pavements will still be narrow and passing at a safe distance may not be easy, please be patient and give way to other pedestrians who may not be comfortable with a group of runners going past them in close proximity. A brief pause till it is safe to pass is worth it (just remember to pause your watch if you are that way inclined).
Once you finish the run, we ask you disperse quickly, to ensure we all stay as safe as possible.
If the evening goes well, we should hopefully be able to continue with the other sessions as planned. If there is any feedback or comments on how tonight’s session goes then please let us know so we can address them and improve where needed.
COVID-19 Most important - Please remember all participants, must undergo a self-assessment for any COVID-19 symptoms. No-one should leave home to participate in this run if they, or someone they live with, has any of the following:
- A high temperature
- A new, continuous cough
- A loss of, or change to, their sense of smell or taste
17/03/2020: COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update
Following yesterday’s changes in guidance from government, and this morning’s 9:00am updated guidance from England Athletics, the committee and run leaders of the club have consulted on the issue of the COVID-19 (Coronavirus).
Being mindful of our duty as a club to keep members safe whilst participating in our club activities, it has been decided to suspend all organised club activities.
From today there will be no Tuesday run from Broomfields and no Thursday run or track sessions from Victoria Park until further notice.
We will also be seeking advice on our position regarding the AGM (which was due to take place on April 6th) and membership renewals, as well as looking further forward to the 10k which is planned for June 25th.
An important part of the current advice is to keep exercising, and we encourage all members from the newest to the most experienced to continue their training, (unless advised otherwise by their doctor) and to continue to use the club Facebook and strava groups to share their running experiences during this unusual period. Those members who do not use Facebook or strava can keep up to date with what other members of the club are up to via the ‘News’ section of the website, or by contacting one of the committee using the usual email addresses.
